National Record Store Day's "Back To Black" Friday: 10 Releases Worth Leaving The House For

Black Friday. One of those days when people like me hole up for one more day of food-coma bliss, fearing the heightened level of commercialism that turns consumers into zombified shopping maniacs, out for blood over $30 plasma televisions.

But the upside to Black Friday is when the words Record Store are slapped in front of the normal terrifying term. As in Record Store Day "Back to Black" Friday, when a plethora of limited-edition vinyl records are released into the chaos for music nerds everywhere to fawn over.

While there may be the occasional scuffle ("That's my Hot Sauce Committee deluxe edition, you son of a bitch!"), the selection of records is eclectic and exciting, with exclusive releases by such big-name acts as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Nirvana,Buy beautiful prints & gifts edhardy, The Rolling Stones, and Beastie Boys.

While the folks behind National Record Store Day make it clear that not all stores will stock all releases offered and that, obviously, some may sell out, you're sure to find some musical gems.

According to the official Record Store day site, local Valley record stores participating include Stinkweeds, all Zia Records locations, Tracks in Wax, Revolver Records, and Rockzone Records. Find the full list of releases here.

We've compiled a list of 10 of the coolest items from this Friday's list, from the first vinyl remaster of Pink Floyd's The Wall to a Type O Negative box set.

3. Red Hot Chili Peppers' 1991 breakthrough album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, offered on a special red double 12-inch re-pressing.

4. Rolling Stones, "No Spare Parts." An individually numbered single with an unreleased track from the Some Girls sessions and a remastered take of "Before They Make Me Run." On 7-inch vinyl.

5. Beastie Boys' Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (deluxe edition). This mega-release comes with all sorts of perks: Blu-Ray and DVD versions of the entire album, plus all the remixes mixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound audio. It also includes both long and short versions of the star-studded Fight for Your Right Revisited video and the Spike Jonze-directed thriller, Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win. Add to that a 130-plus-page hardcover book with exclusive behind-the-scenes photos of the making of Fight for Your Right Revisited, and the official Beastie Boys T-shirt.

6. Pink Floyd: The Wall . Includes 7-inch vinyl singles box set of three singles, the first vinyl remasters from The Wall, including "Another Brick in the Wall" / "One of My Turns," "Comfortably Numb" / "Hey You," "Run Like Hell" / "Don't Leave Me Now."

7. Iron & Wine: Limited-edition release of the KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic session. On 12-inch vinyl.

8. The Beatles: "The Singles" box set of four 7-inch picture-sleeve singles in heavy flip-top box, with RSD-branded adapter and poster. All tracks are newly remastered and appear on vinyl for the first time. Includes "Ticket To Ride" / "Yes It Is," "Hey Jude" / "Revolution," "Something" / "Come Together," and "Yellow Submarine" / "Eleanor Rigby."

9. Janis Joplin: The Classic LP Collection. Here is an awesome mash-up of Joplin's best albums, on cherry 180-gram vinyl from original masters. Includes Pearl, I Got Dem' Kozmik Blues Again Mama, and Big Brother and the Holding Company's self-titled release and Cheap Thrills.

10. Type O Negative, vinyl box set, includes all Roadrunner-released Type O Negative material, and each album has new, branded liner notes documenting the genesis and completion of each album.
