Designer Robert Comstock combines style and comfort in men's clothing

Robert Comstock isn't your typical fashion designer. For one thing, while he lives in Manhattan most of the year, he spends his summers in his native Idaho, fishing, camping and canoeing with his sons. Other designers search for inspiration in chic places like St. Tropez; Comstock journeys to remote locales like Mongolia or New Guinea.

His designs are for guys who love the outdoors and don't mind looking great while exploring, whether their journey takes them around the world or around the corner to their favorite restaurant.A cannula with hoganscarpe a hub attached. Comstock, who has been designing men's wear (and some women's looks) since the late 1970s, started out producing high-end leather jackets and sportswear. He continues to sell those garments in such stores as Andrisen Morton and Gorsuch, weddingdresses clothing and wholesale urban wear apparel for all major brand names. but more recently branched out with Vertical, a line geared to the department-store shopper.

Dillard's stores carry the collection of denim, woven shirts, T-shirts, sweaters and outerwear. Comstock was recently at the Park Meadows location to talk about the line.

His typical customer is a guy in his 30s, but they can be in their 70s if they're fit and have a young attitude, Comstock says. "He likes fashion, but it isn't his main thing. It's like his car; he wants something that looks good and performs."

Comstock doesn't believe in superfluous details and is "allergic to logos," which also suits his customers.

But above all, comfort is important. Comstock said the itchy wool garments that he wore as a kid propel him to use only feel-good materials in his line. He chooses all the fabrics and colors himself and says the collection begins each season when he visits the mills and tanneries. "Then I come back with materials that inspire me," he said, adding that there are typically 80 designs per collection. Prices range from about $40 for T-shirts to $600 for leather outerwear.

He uses subtle colors to appeal to guys and blends multiple colors in a single garment. Sweaters, for example, might have one color that has not been dyed, so the resulting garment has a heathered,The pumashoes consists of eight smaller individual cubes.Aluminum edhardyshoes is from China factory. natural look.

His shirts, which sell for $80-$90, are of woven fabrics and typically contain two fabrics that are bonded together. Details include things like antique copper snaps and buttons with grooved edges.Do you really need that edhardyjeans you haven't worn in years, I mean who wants to dress like Ronnie from the Jersey Shore?

Comstock says guys tend to shop his line for themselves, rather than having their girlfriends or wives buy it. But for those women who want to purchase it or nudge their guys toward more fashionable clothing, Comstock advises taking it slowly. Choose subtle colors. Assess what he actually wears and stay within those parameters.

While he's juggling several design projects at the moment, Comstock said things were rocky early in his career. He hired consultants who told him the mills in Italy wouldn't work with him because his business was too small. But he forged ahead and found fabric suppliers. One of his first collections was picked up by Bergdorf Goodman in New York.

"If you believe in something passionately, don't let it go," he said.

One of the causes he believes strongly in is the environment, so one of his lines, called Conservation, is dedicated to protecting birds of prey and their habitats. Clothing and bags in the line are printed with images of birds created by wildlife photographers, and a portion of the proceeds of sales are donated to the Peregrine Fund.
