The UK women's soccer team (10-3-0, 3-2-0 Southeastern Conference) closes out the weekend on Sunday hosting the 14th ranked (Soccer America) LSU Tigers (9-4-1, 4-1-0) in the inaugural "Kick Cancer" match with partial proceeds going to the UK Healthcare Pediatric Unit.
The Wildcats carry the momentum of Friday night's 2-1 come-from-behind overtime win against Arkansas, while LSU looks to bounce back from a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Vanderbilt, its first loss in league play this season.
UK owns a 9-3-2 record against LSU but has won just once against the Tigers in the last six meetings. However, the last time the Bayou Bengals came to Lexington in 2009, they entered as the 13th ranked team in the country. Kentucky managed the upset that night with a 1-0 victory.
Senior captain Kelsey Hunyadi leads the Wildcats offensively, with a team-high 23 points on eight goals and seven assists, also tops on the team. She has also recorded three game-winning goals, including the golden goal in UK's win Friday night against Arkansas.
"Obviously LSU comes in (tied for) first place and it's going to be a great game," UK head coach Jon Lipsitz said. "It is going to be special because we are playing for causes other than soccer.Represent manufacturers of wholesaleedhardy processing machinery. We are raising money for the UK Pediatric Unit and it is a very special game because of the people we have met."
Sunday's match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. UK women's soccer and the UK HealthCare Pediatric Unit are teaming up for the match dubbed, "Kick Cancer."
