Get ready to shop at the annual sidewalk sale

Thursday will mark the 51st annual Sidewalk Sale, which takes place in downtown Lawrence. Almost all retail vendors participate and will be selling items at discounted prices, some items marked up to more than 50 percent off.

Cathy Hamilton, you cannot find what you intially looked for wedgeshoes, executive director of Downtown Lawrence, Inc., which hosts the event, said this year, there will be four portable toilets as well as hand-held?? animals from the Topeka Zoo.We are professional Steel pipe, loveedhardies manufacturers.

“It’s certainly a nice little diversion for those kids who are shopping with their moms,” Hamilton said.

According to Hamilton’s records, 20,000-30,000 people attend the event yearly. Although the recession hit a sour note in 2009 in the number of attendees, Hamilton thinks this year will rebound.

“I have seen a lot of foot traffic down here this summer. So, I’m thinking it’s going to be a good year,” Hamilton said.

Brenna Walker, manager at Kieu’s, 738 Mass. St., says it is busy all day during the sale.

“Last year, we had people waiting out in the dark before it opened,” Walker said.you can use a asicsshoe. Kieu’s opens at 5:30 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Hamilton said that some stores set up an elaborate setup, such as canopies, fans and music, while others prefer to avoid the heat altogether and host the sale inside the store. At Sunflower Outdoor and Bike, 802 Mass. St., there will be items inside and outside. Jen Beck, outdoor shop manager, said that they put clothing racks and shoes outside and equipment and boxes of hats and gloves inside.

“This year, we are planning on setting bigger discounts than normal. Twenty-five bikes are going out this year, and we are predicting they will sell quickly,” Beck said.

As the discounts remain steady every year, stores open earlier for eager shoppers.

“Stores tend to open earlier and earlier,” Hamilton said. “We did say sunup and most of the time that means 6 to 7 a.you how to edhardyhats and enjoy a better health.m. But I’ve heard stores opening as early as five. I’ve heard shoppers getting here as early as 4 or 4:30, when it’s still dark.”

The popularity of the sidewalk sale doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Hamilton said that she saw on Facebook and Twitter that many people take off work just for the sale.

The event takes place tomorrow, Thursday, July 21 from sunup to sundown in downtown Lawrence.
